“The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion Energi. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel became difficult to turn to the left or the right. The contact stated that the ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the electrical rack and pinion needed to be replaced and recalibrated. In addition, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V340000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired due to costs. “The contact owns a 2015 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that upon inspection, an oil leak was found. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced due to several holes and cracks being found on the engine block. “While driving my vehicle the vehicle jerked and suddenly lost all power. I coasted as safely as possible to the right lane as soon as I had a 'stop safely now' message blink on my instrument panel. I attempted to turn my car back on but couldn't. After a few attempts I was able to turn it back on only to have the same jerk movement and light come on. I coasted once again to the furthest right lane before attempting once more to restart the car. After another short lived take off I coasted to a parking lot. “The car has stopped charging and will not operate in hybrid mode. Ford and the dealer have the parts are back order for over 4 months. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 27, 2013, to October 31, 2014, 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicles manufactured February 24, 2014, to October 31, 2014, and 2015 Ford Fusion Energi vehicles manufactured July 14, 2014, to October 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the key may be able to be removed even while the transmission is not in Park. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles, free of charge. The recall began on December 15, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14C11.
