P2714 is the hydraulic-performance twin of P2716: solenoid D answers electrically but the pressure it manages does not follow commands - stuck off, in the code's phrasing. On the Toyota and Lexus automatics where this family is famous, that solenoid trims line pressure, and its failure defaults the transmission to maximum pressure: every shift lands hard, all at once, often to the day the owner can name.
That harsh-default behavior is actually protective - high pressure prevents slip - but it hammers mounts and drivetrain while it lasts. Diagnosis runs the standard hydraulic ladder: fluid condition and level, then the solenoid (reachable in the pan on many units), then the valve body bore it lives in, which wears oval on high-mileage units and lets a healthy new solenoid keep misbehaving. I took my car to a mechanic and was diagnosed with the code DTC P2714. I looked online and there are a lot of people having this issue and being put in dangerous situations when we drive. “My 2021 Chevrolet express van with an 8L90 transmission has failed after only 80k miles, willing to have it inspected. Check engine codes show P0700 and P2714 on 02/08/25. No prior warning lamps. This product has put my safety at risk due to overheating and making the vehicle go into limp mode while on public roadways. The product is known to fail for trucks alike with the same transmission but has yet to be reported for the Chevrolet express. “Car Will stop moving forward or reverse randomly while driving. This plays a p2714 code with the check engine light. It is available for inspection if requested. This has happened while driving on the road. Vehicle stalls out and does not move which could cause severe accident and bodily injury. This issue seems to be a known issue among GM vehicles with the CT40 CVT transmissions. I do have a short video that can be provided.
