P0757: Shift Solenoid B Stuck On
A generic powertrain (engine and transmission) trouble code, same meaning on every brand.
Yes with care - the transmission may start in the wrong gear.
Symptoms
- Starting off in a higher gear
- Harsh engagement
- No downshift when slowing
Likely causes, most common first
- Shift solenoid B stuck on
- Debris holding the valve open
- Valve body wear
- Electrical short holding the solenoid energised
Read P0757 yourself before paying for diagnosis
A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.
What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0757 is the mirror image of P0756: the solenoid is stuck on rather than off. The practical symptom is often a car that pulls away sluggishly because it is starting in second or third instead of first.
A solenoid held on electrically - by a control wire shorted to power, for instance - produces the same behaviour as one jammed hydraulically. Unplugging the solenoid and seeing whether the behaviour changes distinguishes the two in a couple of minutes.
Repair options and cost
Typical US independent-shop ranges, parts and labor. Dealers run higher; regional labor rates vary.
Owner reports mentioning P0757
“I had stopped at an intersection and when I applied the gas, the truck stuttered a bit before going. It ran okay for less than a mile. I stopped at the next intersection and when I applied the gas, the truck shuttered, started to go then just stopped. It stayed running but didn't want to go. I was able to get it through the intersection but that was it. The message i am getting is powertrain malfunction/reduced power. When we put our diagnosis tool on it, we get code P0757.”2022 Ford Maverick · Jul 2026
“My vehicle began jumping when switching from drive to reverse. When I placed the car into reverse, it stalled and would not switch into reverse or neutral. The car stalled in the middle of a parking lot. The check engine light did not come on initially, and when it did, it did not remain on for very long. The car prompted a Shift Solenois B Stuck On error (P0757:00-E8), as well as an inability to engage neutral error (P073D:00-6C) and transmission friction element error (P2701:00-6C). The valve body has been replaced, but the transmission is still promoting the same errors.”2019 Ford Edge · Oct 2025
“transmission solenoid malfunction (p0757). car came to an abrupt stop in the middle of a speeding boulevard for no external reason at all. there was no prior impact or damage. i almost got rear-ended and t-boned ten times. considering the amount of complaints on this ford transmission 10R80, i firmly believe this transmission needs to be recalled and our repair/damage expenses reimbursed. Thank you.”2018 Ford Mustang · Jul 2024
