What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0481 covers the second fan circuit on vehicles that have two fans or two fan speeds. Many cars run one fan for engine cooling and the second for the air conditioning condenser, which is why a fault here often shows up first as poor cooling from the vents in traffic rather than as a temperature warning.
Fan wiring lives at the very front of the car, ahead of the radiator, where it meets stones, water and minor collision damage. Following the harness visually is worth a few minutes before the fan assembly is condemned.
