What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0449 is the electrical circuit of the EVAP vent valve, which lives near the fuel tank in the path of water, salt and gravel. Connector corrosion is endemic there.
GM trucks and SUVs of the 2000s made this code famous; the aftermarket sells improved valves with pigtails for exactly that reason.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, and DTC: P0449 and P0498 were retrieved. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to a Special Coverage Adjustment Program for the Evaporative Emissions Purge Pump; however, the VIN was not included in the coverage.
