2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid: problems, recalls and reliability

“Tl* the contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner hybrid. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled with an unknown warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to andy mohr ford located at 2713 e. Main st, plainfield, in 46168 however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. “ABS brake light warning came on. Brakes pretty much stopped working without any prior warning to the lights. Had to depress the pedal all the way to get brakes. Very unsafe. “ABS light came on and brake system failed to stop the vehicle until pressed hard the brake pedal. The ABS light comes on and off. Gave the vehicle for diagnostics to mechanic - codes u0418 invalid data from brake control module, codes c1478, c1479, c1480, wheel brake pressure control plausibility, u2023 communication network fault, mechanic gave estimate of $5542.00 to replace ABS control assembly. While driving 45 mph, the re-gen brake disabled warning indicator illuminated and the brakes failed to operate as intended. When the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, it operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. “Stop safely now chimes and displayed on dash followed by no acceleration until vehicle stalls and stops.starts right back up but continues to happen especially in la rush hour traffic. Very dangerous! Had recall work done on the mecs 3yrs ago but problem has continued. This happens while in motion on the 110 freeway in downtown los angleles, ca. “Car has been rock solid reliable up until 3 weeks ago. Driving normally on city streets the car abruptly shut down the hybrid and ice propulsion units. Steering froze up and it was like putting the brakes on it stranded me in the middle of traffic causing delays for other drivers and a dangerous obstruction. The car has no limp mode to allow for safely getting out of traffic. It had to be towed.
