2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid: problems, recalls and reliability

“My son was coming to an intersection of a main road from a side street and when he went to step on the brake the suv would not stop he didn't expect this and pushed down as hard as he could if stopped out in the main road lucky no one was out there. I have checked on the web and a lot of people have had the same problem it seam to be something with the electric brake system that stops the suv. I uses mostly the regenerating system to stop the suv not the pad only a little is use so if the system has a problem you have a danger of not stopping as quickly as expected..... “My 22 year old daughter was driving my 2007 mercury mariner hybrid back to college after spring break at home. She was traveling at 75 mph in the fast lane and the engine just quit. She had been driving for several hours at freeway speed. The "stop safely" light comes on and she was able to get to the right shoulder on electric power. Very scary! She waited 10 minutes and it fired back up and she was able to continue on to school another half hour. But she is now unsure when and if it will happen again. I purchased the vehicle used four years ago and it now has 70,000 miles. I just googled the issue and it seems to be a common problem. “Car engine sudden went dead in the middle of highway and message appeared that pull over now for safety. No power to wheels ect. Barely found safe place to pull over. Dealership said it was caused by leaky water pump. Vehicle was repaired at folsom lake ford. No note was on the display saying water pump, just the above message. Had to wait and restart engine.
