2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid: problems, recalls and reliability

“I was backing out of my driveway turning onto the road, when my power steering went out. I took my 2006 mercury mariner hybrid to the ford dealership. At first they thought there was a recall on it. It was the wrong year. It seems to me that ford would include 2006 if it is the same problem. Nobody will buy this model because of this issue. Come on ford your problems are my problem. This is not right! It seems to me that with this power steering issue in so many of the 2006 vehicles you would step up and do a recall.”Owner report · Steering · Jun 2017

“After having a new water coolant pump (the fourth one in my mariner hybrid) and a new throttle body being put into my car by a ford dealership, my car is still having the same problems. Now a "service emission sys" warning has come on, and being under 150,000 miles still I contacted ford to see what could be done since it was "fixed" by them but still has a problem related to the electrical hybrid powertrain, and ford says there is nothing else that can be done, even though it clearly is under the warranty that they created due to the failures of both parts.”Owner report · Power Train · Jun 2016

“The warning lights had come on a few days ago stating to check the brakes. Today, when the engine was started, the message stop safely now came on. This does not tell me anything about what I need to do and how critical this error is. Can I drive it to the repair shop or should I have it towed? What has to be replaced? “Tl* the contact owns a 2006 mercury mariner hybrid. While driving at various speeds, the high temperature warning sensor light illuminated before the vehicle overheated and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the hybrid fans were faulty and needed to be replaced. The fans were replaced and the failure was remedied. The contact also indicated that the ABS braking system malfunctioned due to a faulty ABS module that was damaged when the engine overheated. The ABS was not repaired. The vehicle was left with the dealer for two months but the recall repairs were not made because the parts needed for the repair were not available. The manufacturer advised that the recall repair would not be made unless the contact had experienced the failure listed in the consequence of the recall despite the contact having experienced several stalling failures and the VIN being included in the recall. “Was driving 50mph and car shuts off and warning says pull over after doing so I try to start it car didn't start till the 3rd crank after it started I started to drive when I pressed the brake the pedal was really hard and the brake light and ABS light came on I took it to the ford dealer ship in naperville il and they diagnose that the hcu (hydraulic control unit for ABS) is bad $3900 smart junction box and possibly the master cylinder is bad gave me a $5200 estimate for the repair. *tr”Owner report · Service Brakes · Apr 2014

“I was going down the expressway when I got a warning and a message telling me to safely stop the vehicle, and I lost power down to a crawl. I took it to the dealer and they said this wasn't covered by the extended warranty I purchased even though they said it was part of the power train .I even called ford customer service warranty division and they said it wasn't covered but if it was recalled they would refund repairs with receipt.. I looked online and there are lots of complaints of this part going bad and replaced by a updated version that will hold up better for this gas/ele. Motor.
