What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
U0415 says the ABS module is broadcasting data another module refuses to believe - most often vehicle speed, which ABS derives from the wheel sensors and shares with the whole car. One flaky wheel sensor can make the ABS module's speed math impossible, and the complaint lands here.
So the path runs through the ABS module's own codes: a wheel speed sensor fault found there is the likely root cause, and it is a modest repair. Live data makes it visible - graph all four wheel speeds and watch for one that drops out or spikes while rolling. Replacing the ABS module on the strength of this code alone, without that check, is how expensive misdiagnoses happen.

“The concern is a rear end collision. At road speeds, vehicle changed to neutral (popped out of gear). Engine continued to run. Vehicle had to cost to a safe spot. At stop the vehicle was turned completely off and restarted with no issue. This is a repeatable but intermittent issue. This issue has also occurred at stop signs and slow speeds.
