Symptoms

  • Engine refuses to rev past a set point
  • Reduced power warning
  • Normal behavior below the cap
  • Companion throttle or pedal codes

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Throttle actuator fault judged moderate by the computer
  2. Pedal or throttle sensor disagreement
  3. Intermittent wiring fault
  4. Root cause named by companion codes

Read P2110 yourself before paying for diagnosis

A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.

What is going on and how it gets diagnosed

P2110 records that the throttle system limited maximum engine speed - a middle rung on the intervention ladder between full power and forced idle. The computer picks the rung by how badly the throttle data disagrees with expectations, so the same underlying fault can produce P2106 one day and P2110 the next as it worsens.

The road map is the same as for the whole family: pull all codes, chase the one that names hardware, fix that, then clear the set together. An intermittent version - power limited one trip, normal the next - points strongly at wiring or connectors rather than a dead part, and wiggle-testing the throttle and pedal connectors while watching live data often finds it faster than any parts swap.

Repair options and cost

Diagnosis of companion codes$100 - $180
Throttle body cleaning and relearn$80 - $180
Throttle body replacement$250 - $700

The car lost power suddenly after stopping for a traffic signal. Check engine light came on. Engine never stopped running but would not go faster than about 20mph. Transmission upshifted and down shifted. Orb error codes where p2110, p2106, and p161b. No other codes where stored. It has happened twice in 6 months. After restarting engine check engine light was not on and the car ran normally.2007 Suzuki Forenza · Oct 2017 · 95,000 mi

My 08 forenza hesitates during cold start up. No codes show. It has 58000 miles (timing belt due in a few thousand), 5 speed stick , driven 90 miles one way every 3 third day. It did die on the highway back in january '11 , cel came on, went into limp mode,I didn't shut down for fear of completely dying it was towed to dealer. Pulled codes p2106, p2110, and p0835 from computer. Dealer found nothing wrong other than codes. Since then hesitation has been getting worse. It doesn't seem to idle normally all that well even after driving for several hours (seems like tps is sticking runs around 2000 for about 15 seconds after coming to a stop). *tr2008 Suzuki Forenza · Jan 2011 · 53,714 mi
I was stopped at red light when all warning lights came on. Started through intersection when car died in middle of busy intersection. Had to have car towed. Was told they found code p2110 limp home mode. This could be potentially very dangerous if it occured on interstate. *tr2012 Kia Sorento · Nov 2010 · 8,000 mi
