Symptoms

  • Engine revving without acceleration in second
  • Harsh 1-2 shift
  • Burning smell in severe cases

Likely causes, most common first

  1. Low or contaminated fluid
  2. Second gear clutch or band worn
  3. Shift solenoid fault
  4. Valve body pressure leak

Read P0732 yourself before paying for diagnosis

A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.

What is going on and how it gets diagnosed

P0732 is the same measurement applied to second gear. Which gear reports the fault is genuinely useful information, because each ratio is produced by a different combination of clutches and bands - a fault confined to one gear points at the components unique to it.

If several gear ratio codes appear together, the cause is usually shared rather than multiple worn packs: low fluid pressure, a failing pump, or a valve body that leaks across circuits. A pressure test settles the question before anyone opens the transmission.

Repair options and cost

Fluid and filter service$200 - $500
Shift solenoid$300 - $800
Valve body$700 - $1,800
Transmission rebuild$2,500 - $5,000

Owner reports mentioning P0732

My transmission feels as if it is skipping. It feels as if the truck is going to stop while driving. Making it very dangerous and unsafe for my children and myself. The two codes that a scanner gave were P0732:00-6D and P07F7:00-6D. Please help with this. My truck is not even that old nor is high on mileage. Thank you.2019 Ford Expedition · Mar 2026
Vehicle transmission is shifting hard and often time slipping. Causing us to lose power until it finally gets into gear. It's nearly caused us accidents due to the sudden loss of power. It is available for inspection. We live in an area with high traffic tourist volume and has caused us multiple near accidents. It has been checked by a mechanic. The code thrown every time was P0732. The code was thrown the first time it did it 2 weeks ago.2018 Ford F-150 · Dec 2023
At low speeds when shifting into 2nd gear the car slips, rpm's raise and then it suddenly and aggressively jerks into 2nd gear. If the start and stop feature is enabled and you are in a situation where the feature is engaging and disengaging like traffic then after a few of the jerks into 2nd gear it seems the PCM will get discombobulated and display a P0732 error.2017 Chrysler Pacifica · Oct 2022

I bought my 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in 2018, and it would randomly jump gears while accelerating or stay in a higher gear. The dealership could not duplicate the problem for months. In May 2019, it threw a check engine light code of P0732. This was then repaired at a Chrysler dealer. It started doing that same thing again in January 2021. In September 2021, it threw the same check engine light code of P0732.2017 Chrysler Pacifica · Sep 2021
