P0707: Transmission Range Sensor A Circuit Low

What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0707 reports a low signal from the transmission range sensor - the component that tells the computer which position the shifter selected. It is the modern descendant of the neutral safety switch, and its symptoms are pure logic errors: the car acts on a gear selection you did not make, or refuses one you did.
Before the sensor is condemned, the linkage deserves a look. The sensor sits on the transmission and is moved by the shift cable; a cable stretched or misadjusted by a few millimeters rotates the sensor into the gap between positions, producing this code with a perfectly healthy sensor. The classic tell is that jiggling the shifter in Park changes whether the engine cranks. Adjustment is cheap, the sensor moderate, and the diagnosis between them takes a multimeter and the position chart from the service data.

“The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted from 6th to 4th gear. The contact stated that there was a screeching sound coming from underneath the vehicle. Additionally, the power train warning light was illuminated. “Transmission on my F150 suddenly dropped to a lower gear as I was pulling out on a highway which significantly lowered my acceleration. Luckily the oncoming traffic slowed until I could safely get across to my lane. Eventually it jumped back into the proper gear. From what I have found on the internet this seems to be a common defect. Only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed.
