What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0627 reports an open circuit where the computer commands the fuel pump - the control path, not the pump itself. The distinction is hopeful: pumps are expensive and buried in the tank, while the control path runs through a relay, accessible wiring, and on many trucks a separate driver module, all cheaper and easier to reach.
That driver module deserves special mention: on a number of popular pickups and SUVs it lives on the frame or under the bed, where road salt eats its connector and case - a failure so routine that improved replacements exist. Relay first (swap-test with a neighbor), then the module and its corroded connector, then wiring toward the tank. The driving caution is the same as for all fuel-delivery codes: fuel starvation picks its own moment, so until fixed, avoid the roads where an engine dying mid-maneuver is more than an inconvenience.
