P0014 on Kia vehicles
47 owner complaints filed with NHTSA about Kia vehicles mention P0014 (B Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1) - across 7 models. Below is where it shows up, by model and year.
Can you drive with it? Driveable, but a timing fault left alone can become a chain or phaser repair.
Symptoms, likely causes in order and realistic repair costs are on the main P0014 page - they do not differ much by brand. This page shows what is specific to Kia: which models and years actually report it.

The number next to each year is how many NHTSA complaints for that car mention P0014. Owners rarely quote trouble codes when complaining, so real occurrence is many times higher - use these numbers to compare years, not as totals.
What Kia owners report
“Engine stalled at stoplight. Was able to restart and pulled into closest parking lot where it began idling hard. Check Engine light turned on. Checked oil and it was bone dry (no signs of oil leak/burning beforehand). After adding about a quart of oil, while in park I revved the engine slowly, but it would stall out if it went over 3000 rpms and idle even harder. My basic code reader popped for P0014 and P0017 (crankshaft/camshaft position). Had to have it towed to the local dealer for safety. 75,400 miles on it and my VIN has not been part of recalls. Requesting an investigation to include more VINs as these issues point to a prior recall resulting in engine replacement.”2021 Kia Seltos · Mar 2026
“Had to replace a P0014 Exhaust camshaft position timing VCT solenoid - over advanced (Bank1) last year on October 1,2024. Now 2025 December 8,2025 need a nothing camshaft position timing VCT solenoid and also says I need replace my engine. I think something is not right about the engine or something on the engine. Not sure but something is definitely wrong. Never had this kind of problem before , but no cars i've ever had.”2017 Kia Forte · Dec 2025
“While driving, the engine started to knock shortly before stalling. The car was restarted and then stalled again while to safely get it into a driveway. The check engine light did not come on until after the first stall (code P0014). As mentioned, these stalls occurred while driving at speed and on busy roads. The car was towed to a Kia dealership and found to have bad crankshaft bearings, requiring full engine replacement. Kia refuses to include this under a previous recall that admits engine damage could have resulted.”2020 Kia Soul · May 2025
“Code p0014 indicates that the Bank 1 exhaust camshaft position timing was advanced beyond limits for a pre determined period of time.”2013 Kia Sorento · Apr 2025
