This is my 2nd Volvo xc90. Both models have turbo issues that is costly repairs. Volvo dealership also stated that turbo repairs usually are an issue in Volvo. My first Volvo was 2016 which had a turbo issue. Now my 2022 is now in shop due to turbo and oil spills on inside. There should be a recall.Owner report · Fuel/Propulsion System · Jun 2026
In the middle of a cold snowstorm the screen froze and started glitching. As I was trying to change the drive mode to all wheel drive the ESC off button triggered and ESC stayed off without AWD mode and screen was unresponsive. There is a flaw in Volvo sunroof drains. There are class action lawsuits because of this. 6 months after purchasing my car, there was a leak into my car due to a clogged sunroof drains causing damage to electronics and potentially to computers within the car. I was going 60 mph when the check engine light came on , the car started to jerk and reduce speed. I pulled onto the shoulder until the car stopped. I than proceeded to drive slowly and the turtle appeared on the dash. I drove about another mile until I reached my home doing 30 miles per hour or less.Owner report · Power Train · Mar 2024
During cold weather, and when backing up, the vehicle makes a loud knocking noise as if an accident has occurred. This is an intermittent problem. The vehicle is equipped with Auto-hold brakes. The dealership stated that this might be the issue where the auto-hold is engaging without warring. The dealership tested the brakes and stated that it was operating per manufacturing specs. Front sensor not detecting objects when parking. First time the dealership checked it, they said it was operating as designed. The second time, while driving on the freeway, I got a blind spot sensor service required warring error on dashboard. The vehicle is equipped with wireless phone charger. I was charging my phone and could not lift it off the charger with my bare hand. According to the dealership test, their test started at 80 degrees Fahrenheit and tested after 10 minutes at 102 degrees Fahrenheit. The dealership stated that the charger is operating as designed. The contact's father owns a 2022 Volvo XC90. The contact stated that upon entering the garage where the vehicle was parked, he became aware that the vehicle was idling and had turned on remotely. The contact stated that a message displayed on the instrument panel stated that the vehicle was remotely started by an unknown app. An undisclosed dealer was notified of the failure and an appointment was scheduled. The contact was concerned for his family's safety. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the app had been deactivated and advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. Driving on the highway, check engine light came on followed by turtle mode and subsequent engine failure. Stranding driver with three small children on the highway. This has occurred several times, again stranding driver and three small children in the middle of nowhere at night having to await a tow truck and find a ride to hotel. Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2022-2023 S60, V60, S90L, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. An electronic control module (ECM) software error may prevent the combustion engine from starting, causing a loss of drive power.

Remedy: Dealers will update the ECM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed December 8, 2022. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10198.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:PROPULSION SYSTEM:TRACTION BATTERY25V179000 · Mar 2025

Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2020-2021 S90, 2020-2022 S60, V60, XC60, XC90, and 2022 V90 plug-in hybrid vehicles. The high-voltage battery may experience a short circuit within the battery module when the battery is fully charged and the vehicle is parked.

Remedy: Owners are advised not to charge their vehicles until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the high-voltage battery module as necessary. In addition, dealers will update the software to monitor the battery. All repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 28, 2025. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10312.

Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2019-2022 V60CC, XC60, and XC90 vehicles. During steering gear assembly, double screws may have been assembled on top of each other, which can cause a screw to fall into the gearbox housing.

Remedy: Dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 1, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Car's customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10213.

SEAT BELTS:CRITICAL FASTENERS23V827000 · Dec 2023

Volvo Car USA, LLC (Volvo Car) is recalling certain 2015-2024 XC90 vehicles. The second-row seat belt buckle and lower belt anchor bolts may not be tightened properly.

Remedy: Dealers will inspect and tighten the second-row seat belt buckle anchorage bolts, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 19, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Car customer service at 1-800-458-1552. Volvo Car's number for this recall is R10259.
