Hello, I purchased a used jeep in may 2018. Once I took possession of the jeep, my mechanic mentioned there was an open recall. So, I called the local dealer about repairing the recall defect. I was told they couldn't help me because the jeep was to old and they didn't have the parts on hand. They told me to call the jeep recall center, which I did... And and they too told me the same thing... Too old and no parts on hand. They also told me to call auto parts stores to see if they had the parts and maybe they would reimburse me and maybe not. Seems to me, they're making me do their job and not attempting to taking care of an open recall. And please note: the fuel tank is leaking.Owner report · Fuel/Propulsion System · Aug 2018
Tl* the contact owns a 1993 jeep wrangler. While refueling the vehicle, the contact noticed fuel leaking from the fuel tank. In addition, the contact noticed fuel vapors emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel tank and the sending unit needed to be replaced. While driving 65 mph the vehicle was engulfed in flames. The vehicle was totalled. Please provide additional information.*jbOwner report · Engine And Engine Cooling · May 2002
Fuel vapor line became detached causing fuel leak in close proximity to exhaust pipe which created a potential fire hazard. I repaired this defect by using a clamp to secure the line back to fuel tank. There are two of these vapor lines that are on each end of the tank and they are not secured with clamps from the factory. With the aging of the rubber vapor line it can become lose and when pressure in the fuel tank increases it can cause the one of the lines to pop off. This results in fuel leaking and creates a hazardous fire condition since the exhaust pipe runs next to the tank in the rear of the vehicle.*akOwner report · Engine And Engine Cooling · Apr 2002
