What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0523 means the oil pressure signal is stuck at the high end of its range - a reading that would be implausible at idle on a warm engine. A short to voltage or a failed sensor accounts for most of these.
One genuine mechanical cause is worth ruling out: oil that is far thicker than the engine was designed for, whether from the wrong grade at the last service or from cold weather with a heavy oil, really does raise pressure. Checking what went into the engine last is free and occasionally solves it.

“I was driving my pontiac g6gt and came to a stop sign. I stepped on the gas and the car revved at high rpm's. I could not go forward I was able to go in reverse, I have a 4 speed auto transmission.
