P0341: Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance Bank 1 or Single Sensor
A generic powertrain (engine and transmission) trouble code, same meaning on every brand.
Usually driveable with fallback timing; hard starting is the main annoyance. Diagnose soon.
Symptoms
- Long cranking
- Occasional rough running
- Sometimes paired with misfire codes
Likely causes, most common first
- Cam sensor signal noisy - sensor aging
- Reluctor/tone wheel debris or damage
- Timing chain stretch shifting correlation
Read P0341 yourself before paying for diagnosis
A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.
What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0341 means the camshaft position signal is present but implausible - out of expected range or pattern. Unlike a dead-circuit code, this one often hints at mechanical noise: a wobbling tone wheel, metallic debris on the sensor's magnet, or a chain that has stretched.
If the code arrives with P0016-family correlation codes, look at the chain before replacing sensors twice.
Repair options and cost
Typical US independent-shop ranges, parts and labor. Dealers run higher; regional labor rates vary.

“My engine failed. It's available for inspection upon request. The engine stalled in the middle of high traffic. I called GM customer care and explained to them what happened. They told me to take it to a GM dealership for diagnosis, (it was already diagnosed by a major company). The dealership confirmed a broken timing chain and bent valves. They also said that it was $12,000 to repair and that GM would only cover $1,200 since its out of drive train warranty. They request that I put down $8,657 before they could order a new engine. The codes the car gave were P0016, P0017, P228D, P0089, and P0341.”2017 Chevrolet Equinox · Feb 2023

“The check engine light and vehicle stability assist lights came on first while the car was stationary. The obd codes were scanned and the code p0341 was read. The camshaft position sensor was replaced and the lights turned off and the p0341 codes were cleared. The second time the lights came on the car was in motion. The obd codes were scanned again and the code p1009 was read meaning the vtc actuator is bad and needs to be replaced. This is a very common issue with all 2008-2012 accords and there has been service bulletins issued regarding the problem. There has also been a class action lawsuit about the issue. If there is not already, there needs to be a recall issued.”2012 Honda Accord · Sep 2020 · 76,552 mi

“My model year 2008 accord coupe ex model has been burning oil for a long time. A few years ago I had the tsb completed on it that reprogrammed the computer and was supposed to fix the issue. As of now the car is still burning oil and has developed a new problem. My check engine light is on with error code p0341 which is for the cam position sensor. This is with combination of a loud rattle for a few seconds coming from the engine bay when the car is first started. “We own a 2009 ford f250 super duty 4x4, with low miles (21478). This vehicle has run great since we purchased it new. As we were driving, the engine began to run poorly and loose power. The engine light then came on. The mechanic scanner the engine codes p0012-p0018-p0022-p0341-p052d, indicating faulty cam phasers and tensioners, and that the engine was out of time. This pickup has low mileage and all the recommended maintenance has always been done. The ford parts department stated that they keep these parts stocked because it is a common repair issue. *tr”2009 Ford F-250 SD · Jan 2015 · 21,478 mi
