Read P0320 yourself before paying for diagnosis

A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.

What is going on and how it gets diagnosed

P0320 flags the ignition/distributor engine speed circuit - the timing reference every spark depends on. It overlaps P0335 territory; which code a given car sets depends on the manufacturer's wiring of the same job.

Heat-dependent failure is the classic pattern: fine cold, stalls in traffic, restarts after lunch. Treat it as a fix-now item.

Repair options and cost

Crank sensor$150 - $500
Wiring repair$80 - $250

Typical US independent-shop ranges, parts and labor. Dealers run higher; regional labor rates vary.
