P0201: Cylinder 1 Injector A Circuit
A generic powertrain (engine and transmission) trouble code, same meaning on every brand.
Short trips only - a cylinder without fuel is a misfire with all its consequences.
Symptoms
- Misfire on cylinder 1
- Rough idle and shaking
- Flashing check engine light
Likely causes, most common first
- Injector 1 winding open or shorted
- Connector unplugged or corroded
- Wiring damage between computer and injector
- Failed injector driver in the computer
Read P0201 yourself before paying for diagnosis
A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.
What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0201 is an electrical fault in the circuit of injector 1 - not a clogged nozzle, but a circuit the computer cannot drive properly. That distinction is the whole diagnosis: clogged injectors set misfire or trim codes, while circuit codes mean the winding, the wiring or the driver.
Injector windings are measured in seconds with a meter - most read 10 to 16 ohms, high-impedance style, and the specification is published. The clip-on connectors are the more common culprit: engine vibration works them loose, and oil migrating along the harness swells the seals. If this code coexists with P0301 (misfire, same cylinder), the electrical fault is upstream of everything else - fix the circuit first and the misfire usually leaves with it.
Repair options and cost
Typical US independent-shop ranges, parts and labor. Dealers run higher; regional labor rates vary.
Owner reports mentioning P0201
“P0301 misfire in the engine and P0201 fuel injecter both should be recalled on all 2007 Ford edges as me and another lady both wrecked hitting a small poles and the business owners was nice and said to make it home safely since there was no damage. I have done plenty of research and Ford is refusing to do any recalls on the spark plugs in the engine and the fuel injecter. Please recalls those so no one gets seriously hurt from it.”2007 Ford Edge · Oct 2023 · 177,516 mi
