P0108: Manifold Absolute Pressure/Barometric Pressure Sensor Circuit High
A generic powertrain (engine and transmission) trouble code, same meaning on every brand.
Same as P0107 - fallback fueling, fix soon.
Symptoms
- Rich running, black smoke
- Rough idle, poor economy
Likely causes, most common first
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Failed MAP sensor
- Corrosion inside the connector
Read P0108 yourself before paying for diagnosis
A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.
What is going on and how it gets diagnosed
P0108 is the high-voltage twin of P0107: the MAP signal is pegged at the top of its range, which at idle would mean impossible engine load. The computer falls back to safe estimated values.
Because a pegged-high signal mimics heavy load, the engine typically runs rich until repaired - noticeable at the pump and eventually hard on the catalytic converter, which is why this earns a same-month repair.
Repair options and cost
Typical US independent-shop ranges, parts and labor. Dealers run higher; regional labor rates vary.
