Computed from 18 owner complaints filed with NHTSA for this exact model year.
“The drivers side mirror moves independently. Does not lock. Will move randomly at any time. Volvo knows about the problem and does nothing to fix it.”Owner report · Visibility · Feb 2026
“I was at a stoplight with my foot on the brake. The car lurched forward, which prompted me to push harder on the brake. Then, with my foot firmly on the brake, the car accelerated into the car in front of me. There was body damage to the car. Volvo investigated and said that the computer indicated that the gas pedal was engaged at 90% while the brake was engaged at the same time. This would involve me putting my foot on the gas and brake at the same time, which simply is not what happened. There is clearly something wrong with their computer system. The same problem was identified in the XC40 Recharge EV model.”Owner report · Fuel/Propulsion System · Oct 2025
“When slowing to a stop the vehicle is unsmooth and unpredictable, there is also a sudden release when braking downhill (not sure if they are related). There's been occasions where the car lurched when coming to a stop almost resulting in me rear ending the vehicle in front of me. The unsmooth/unpredictable stopping only happens at speeds under 10mph when approaching a stop like with city driving. I've had it to the dealership two times for this. They've had trouble reproducing it, but acknowledged it is unsmooth and said that's just the way the regenerative braking was designed. The holding back and release when braking downhill is completely random.”Owner report · Unknown Or Other · Sep 2025

“The rear back-up camera does not work. This occurs at least a few times a week with routine, daily driving. The vehicle starts normal and software loads normal; however, upon shifting to reverse, the camera is not displayed. Instead, I receive an error message stating that the camera is not available. My vehicle already has the recall for updated software that was intended to fix the camera issue (software version 3.5.24); however, the issue is worse with this software version. On previous versions, this issue occurred only a couple times a month. It not happens weekly.”Owner report · Back Over Prevention · Jun 2025
“Impossible to see with backup camera at night in a low-light area. It's like not having a camera. This was never a problem with my 2015 Volvo S60 and is not a problem with my wife's 2014 Volvo XC60. The problem is that the touchscreen/dashboard brightness needs to be lowered at night so that it's not too bright. Either the screen needs to get brighter, temporarily, when backing up at night or the camera needs to provide a brighter image. Previous Volvo backup camera implementations did not have this issue. Volvo has been aware of this problem and has no fix. This is a safety issue, i e., like not having a backup camera at night.”Owner report · Back Over Prevention · Dec 2024
“Backup camera will fail to work, on occasion, when car put into reverse. This problem is known by Volvo and I have been told "they are working on it." Searching the Internet I see that this has been an issue since late 2022. I have brought my car to the dealer two times and the problem remains. The last time this happened was 2 days ago (did not drive the car yesterday). Please see [XXX] for more information. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)”Owner report · Unknown Or Other · Jun 2024
“I was driving in the right hand lane on a two lane road where the speed limit is 30mph. While the road was curving to the left slightly the vehicle's Collision Avoidance System was triggered and swerved the car into the left lane towards on coming traffic and cutting off a car behind me. The road was completely empty in front of me. It created a dangerous situation for no reason. I have dashcam footage that captured the moment the car intervened that I can provide if requested, I'm unable to upload video on this portal.”Owner report · Steering · Apr 2024
“The 360 view camera works wonderfully with sufficient light. In dark or dimly lit areas, the camera is totally dark and unusable. Parking in a dark parking lot or area is not possible using the camera. When I was trying to park between the parking lines in the rain in early morning I had to get out of the car to see if I was in the lines. I have taken the car back to the dealer and they state that there are no issues with the camera system. Many owners on Volvo forums state similar issues. I can provide pictures upon request.”Owner report · Unknown Or Other · Oct 2023
“While driving on the interstate 5 in Seattle, WA this Volvo rental car from National had the Multi-media screen went blank. No tell-tales nor instrument readings. The 360 camera and reverse camera systems worked as not part of the Android system. The infotainment system encountered a problem with an Android System with data corrupt. Had to reset factory data reset. Given this is a non-compliance to FMVSS Controls and Displays per Standard 101, I feel obligated to report this concern for driver safety around compatability of the Android system used by Volvo.”Owner report · Electrical System · Sep 2023
