“The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring the steering wheel be manually returned to center upon completing a turn. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the steering sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V144000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and attempting to decelerate, there was an abnormal sound while depressing the brake pedal and the brake went to the floorboard. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the brake master cylinder and brake pump might need to be replaced. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH and attempting to slow the vehicle, the contact became aware that the brake pedal required increased effort to depress to slow the vehicle. The ABS, stability control, and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed failures with the brake booster and brake booster pump assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21TE03. “I have the same issue described in a recall notice for my year make and model. My EPS light is coming on and I'm losing power to the vehicle. My VIN was not included in the recall. Steering: Electric power assist system Recall date 2015-03-12 Recall no.15V144000. This is very concerning as it could cause an accident resulting in injuries or death. “I was in an accident going approximately 35 mph. The car was deemed a total loss after inspection. There was damage to both left and right bumper, hood and pretty much the entire front of the car crumpled. The airbags did not deploy at all. “The car burns oil excessively, I bought this car 11/07/2022 every week to 2 weeks I have to put 2-2 1/2 quarts of oil in. There is nothing wet under the car no oil stains anywhere so oil is not leaking. I spend so much money on oil it's not normal.”Owner report · Engine · Dec 2023
“The steering wheel clockspring ribbon was worn down in the middle, resulting in an open circuit of the SRS. The wear is between the ribbon and inside wall of the container that houses the ribbon. It appears to be a designing flaw or manufacturing defect. The wear was discovered by tearing down the clockspring unit. Airbag light on the dashboard was lit in November 2023. Replaced the clockspring unit on 2/17/2024. Without fixing the problem, the airbag on the steering wheel does not function when needed.”Owner report · Air Bags · Nov 2023

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2015 Camry, Camry Hybrid, Highlander, and Highlander Hybrid, and 2014-2015 Rav4 vehicles. A component of the electric power steering (EPS) electronic control unit (ECU) may have been damaged during the manufacturing process. Over time, this damage may result in failure of the electric power steering system.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the serial number of the EPS ECU or steering column assembly. If the number is within the affected range, the EPS ECU will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on May 7, 2015. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331.
