“Tl*the contact owns a 2000 suzuki grand vitara. While depressing the brake pedal at an unknown speed, the vehicle drifted to the left. The dealer stated that the sway bar failed and the cross member was excessively rusted. The contact believed that the failure occurred from a lack of rust resistance material on the vehicle. No repairs have been made due to the cost. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The contact has pictures of the failure. “Noise coming from timing cover. Dealer indicated it was timing chain tensioner. Dealer stated this was a common problem and that there is a technical service bulletin (tsb) concerning this issue. Total cost to remedy the situation was approx $1600. The engine would need to be pulled from vehicle, oil pan, timing cover removed and three chains, and related tensioners replaced (12.5hrs labor). “Dt*: the contact stated while driving at normal highway speeds, the kick down cable of the transmission became stuck and the vehicle accelerated to a high speed. The contact was able to get the vehicle off the road. The accelerator pedal was manipulated until the cable loosened. An independent repair facility replaced the cable and the problem was corrected. “Dt: the contact stated while driving a fire started under the hood. Pulled the vehicle over and the fire department was called to extinguish the fire. A fire report was taken. The vehicle was towed to the dealership and they determined the fire started in the cruise control. The vehicle was totaled. Prior to the fire the vehicle had cruise control problems. When driving on a steep hill the cruise control deactivated. “Consumer letter regarding the poor sales and service ethics of the suzuki dealership.***no answer required***. *mr when the consumer purchased the vehicle the remote for the door locks did not work. A new one was ordered which the consumer had to pay for. The vehicle did not come with an owner's manual and the consumer had to pay for a new one. The air conditioner did not work. While driving the consumer heard a thumping noise. The consumer's husband checked the vehicle and found that two lug nuts on the driver's side rear tire were missing and the three others were loose. “Owner complaints vibration while braking and premature wear. Number of other problems with this vehicle. *bf the consumer stated that the brakes squeel like nails on a chalkboard. The consumer was told that the rotors were dusty. The vehicle horn started blowing and would not stop. The consumer was told that it was an electrical problem. The fuse was taken out to stop the horn from working. The tail light bulb went out. The consumer heard a ticking noise coming from the vehicle. The consumer noticed smoke coming through the vents on the inside of the vehicle. The temprature gauge went from cold to hot instantly. ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 16-INCH WHEELS, THE FRONT BRAKE DISCS MAY BREAK UNDER SEVERE DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE BREAKAGE CAN OCCUR IN CONDITIONS WHERE THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN ON A REGULAR BASIS ON EXTREMELY STEEP PAVED DOWN-SLOPES WHILE CONTINUOUSLY APPLYING THE BRAKES.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FRONT BRAKE DISCS ON THESE VEHICLES. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 10, 2005. THESE VEHICLES ARE LOCATED ON ST. THOMAS ISLAND (VIRGIN ISLANDS). OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI DEL CARIBE AT 787-622-0600.
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, THE ACCELERATOR CABLE CASING CAP THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE FIREWALL CAN CRACK DUE TO EXTENDED EXPOSURE TO FORCES FROM THE ACCELERATOR CABLE AND INSUFFICIENT LONG-TERM DURABILITY OF THE PLASTIC CASING CAP. IF THE CASING CAP BECOMES CRACKED, MOVEMENT OF THE INNER ACCELERATOR CABLE THROUGH THE CAP CAN CAUSE THE INNER ACCELERATOR CABLE TO BECOME FRAYED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ACCELERATOR CABLE, WHICH INCLUDES THE PLASTIC CASING CAP. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON JANUARY 5, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.
EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: STEEL REPLACEMENT WHEELS, PART NO. 4310-665D21-27S, USED FOR SPARE PARTS ON 1999-2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA AND 2001 SUZUKI GRAND VITARA XL-7 MULTIPURPOSE PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE AFFECTED WHEELS WERE PRODUCED FROM JULY 30 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 20, 2000. THE THICKNESS OF THE STEEL WHEEL INBOARD OF THE AREA WHERE THE WHEEL RIM IS WELDED TO THE WHEEL DISK IS LESS THAN THE DESIGN SPECIFICATION.
Remedy: DEALERS WERE NOTIFIED TO REMOVE ANY OF THESE AFFECTED WHEELS FROM THE STOCK INVENTORY AND RETURN TO AMERICAN SUZUKI MOTOR COMPANY. SUZUKI WILL NOTIFY ANY END USERS WHICH PURCHASED THE REPLACEMENT WHEELS OF THE DEFECT AND TO RETURN THEIR WHEELS TO SUZUKI FOR A FREE REPLACEMENT.
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, UNDER AMBIENT TEMPERATURES BELOW -25 DEGREES CELSIUS, MOISTURE CAN FREEZE IN THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR. AS A RESULT, FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE MAY INCREASE AT THE TIME OF ENGINE START UP, CAUSING FUEL LOSS AT THE FUEL PIPE/FUEL HOSE CONNECTION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, THE FUEL DELIVER HOSE AND REPLACE THE HOSE CLAMP WITH AN IMPROVED CLAMP. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 29, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.

OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-934-0934.
