2000 Oldsmobile Alero: problems, recalls and reliability

“While driving my 2000 oldsmobile alero with my kids in the car the steering locked up and started making lound banging noises from the under carriage then I could not make a left turn. I almost got hit head on and had to pull over and have the vehicle towed to a shop. The mechanic looked at the rack and pinion and realized that the sub frame has rusted out. And the mechanic asked me how did you even drive this car. I told him I had no clue on the severity of the problem. This sub frame is sub par and should be recalled. “Tl* the contact owns a 2000 oldsmobile alero. The contact noticed that the cover of the frontal passenger air bag was lifted on one of the corners approximately a half of an inch. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The cover of the passenger side frontal air bag progressively started to lift even more. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the frontal passenger side air bag assembly was damaged and needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired.
