“The contact owns a 2008 Mitsubishi Endeavor. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact heard a loud flapping noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact also stated that the front driver's side wheel almost became detached from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and became aware that the crossmember for the front alignment was severely corroded. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The dealer was not contacted, and the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. “The subframe on the passenger rear side broke due to rust. Both subframes are rusted front and back but the rest of the underneath of the car is perfect. I need it replaced and the dealer said they can not even get the part anymore. So my car is pretty much totaled. The suv is only 12 years old. The contact also noticed a strong odor of fuel around the vehicle. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA campaign number: 10v514000 (electrical system). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed to replace the battery. The contact replaced the battery, but the failure recurred after a couple of months. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. Fortunately I was parking at a house, but had to disconnect the battery in order to turn the vehicle off. Two months later, the key became stuck in the ignition off position and failed to release. While in park, the vehicle rolled away and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2008 ENDEAVOR WITH MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING. DUE TO AN INCORRECT HEATER (HVAC) CONTROLLER SIGNAL, THE AIR FLOW FROM THE AIR VENTS MAY RANDOMLY CHANGE DIRECTION AND/OR THE TEMPERATURE MAY BRIEFLY CYCLE BETWEEN HOT AND COLD.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR DAMAGE AND IF NECESSARY REPAIR THE MODE DOOR SHAFT FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 7, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-800-222-0037.
MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING 120,000 MY 2004-2006 ENDEAVOR PASSENGER VEHICLES. DURING VEHICLE USE, THE IGNITION KEY INTERLOCK CABLE (WHICH IS A COMPONENT OF THE INTERLOCK SYSTEM) MAY ALLOW THE INTERLOCKING CAM TO FALL FORWARD AND ALLOW THE IGNITION KEY TO BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WHEN THE GEARSHIFT MECHANISM IS NOT IN THE PARK POSITION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND CORRECT THESE VEHICLES FOR THE REPORTED CONDITION. THE RECALL WILL BEGIN ON JULY 7, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-888-648-7820.
MITSUBISHI IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004-2010 ENDEAVOR VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KENTUCKY, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND WASHINGTON D.C. COLD STATES INCLUDE NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA, NEBRASKA, KANSAS, OKLAHOMA, COLORADO, WYOMING, MONTANA, IDAHO, WASHINGTON, OREGON, AND UTAH. ADJOINING STATES INCLUDE ARKANSAS, TENNESSEE, AND NORTH CAROLINA. IN SEVERE CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENTS WHERE ROAD SALTS ARE FREQUENTLY USED IN WINTER VEHICLES MAY BE EXPOSED TO ROAD DEBRIS (MUD) MIXED WITH ROAD SALT. THIS MATERIAL CAN BECOME TRAPPED BETWEEN A REINFORCING BRACKET AND THE FUEL FILLER PIPE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING CORROSION. OVER TIME, CORROSION COULD CREATE A LEAK IN THE FUEL FILLER PIPE THAT COULD RESULT IN A FUEL LEAKAGE WHEN FUELING THE VEHICLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL FILLER PIPE WITH A NEW IMPROVED PART FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE JULY 5, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT MITSUBISHI AT 1-800-222-0037.
