“Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover discovery. He stated that while driving 10mph when the ABS ,traction and hill light came on he felt slippage on the front right tire whenever he engaged the brakes. The dealer stated that he needed a new right hand wheel speed sensor and an ecu on the vehicle. Recall NHTSA campaign id number: 02v022000 component: service brakes, hydraulic:antilock is related to the failure; however, the dealer stated that the VIN was not included. The vehicle will be repaired at the owners expense for $1,200.00. For one week the dealer has been repairing the vehicle. The contact had to pull off the highway to try and diagnose the issue. He called the manufacturer in an attempt to find the nearest dealer and was informed that one was 150 miles away. “Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover discovery. The vehicle was parked and the hand brake was applied. The vehicle automatically shifted into gear and crashed into a tree. “Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover discovery. The contact stated that the traction control, hill descent control, and ABS warning lights remain illuminated. The dealer stated that the air sensor assembly needed to be replaced and they made the replacement. Approximately one month later, the lights illuminated again. The dealer stated that the vehicle needed new brake pads and they made the repair. Approximately two weeks later, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the front wheel sensor needed to be replaced. As of july 2, 2007, the vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN and engine size were unknown. “Dt*: the contact stated when the vehicle was purchased; the service engine soon light was illuminated. The dealership and owner's manual stated unless the light flashed, it was not a problem. Then while traveling 70 mph, the vehicle began to overheat and the engine made a loud noise. There was also steam coming out from under the hood. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 114, "THEFT PROTECTION." WATER CONTAMINATION OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL CAN LEAD TO VARIOUS FAILURE MODES OF THE TRANSMISSION. ONE OF THESE FAILURE MODELS RESULTS IN INCORRECT OPERATION OF THE PARK LOCK FUNCTION THAT COULD ALLOW A VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY IF PARKED WITHOUT THE HANDBRAKE PROPERLY SET.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL CHECK THE PARK LOCK FUNCTION; REPOSITION THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE; AND TEST THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID AND FLUSH IF NECESSARY.
