“Discovery land rover defect in the oil pump, it exploded, heard a loud bang and it damaged engine, the car is now junk and I am not buying another expensive part for this vehicle. There are forums all over the internet of this happening to many people. Had to carefully pull over on the highway at high speed as this could have caused an accident. *tr”Owner report · Engine · Mar 2013

“Tl* the contact owns a 2004 land rover discovery ii. The contact stated that the ABS modulator valve cover and bolts were replaced twice and had recently failed a third time. The contact's mechanic advised that there was a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 04v005000 (service brakes, hydraulic: antilock). The manufacturer was contacted and advised that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was 61,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.”Owner report · Service Brakes, Hydraulic · Jan 2012
“Failure of ABS system while driving. 3-4 times per week while city driving the ABS/hill descent/traction control warning lights and chimes come on. The system typically resets after stopping and re-starting the vehicle (sometimes requires neutral start to reset). This is similar to a failure I had in a 1999 model that required over $3,000 in repairs to replace a failed ABS pump. Land rover insists that there is no fault code left on the obc after these events, but all indications point to a systemic and on-going problem with the series of ABS pumps used over the years. This seems to be an important safety system in the vehicle, but lr seems to have no interest in addressing it. *tr”Owner report · Service Brakes, Hydraulic · Feb 2010
“Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). 2004 land rover discovery, [xxx] oil pump failure caused engine failure at 59,000 miles. Land rover dealer quotes price of engine replacement at $12,850. Requested assistance from both land rover north america customer relations and from local dealer due to a pattern of similar oil pump failures in 2003 and 2004 vehicles. No response to date. *tr”Owner report · Engine And Engine Cooling · Feb 2010
“Just got off major highway and car started to vibrate uncontrollably and make a knocking sound and just stopped if a loud nose that sounded like the engine fell out. Cars behind me swerved to avoid hitting me and two people stopped to pushed my car out of harms way. I had to have my car towed and the next day my mechanic told me the drive shaft fell out. This just happened this on 12/2/08 and I have not had it repaired as of yet due to the costly expense. *tr”Owner report · Suspension · Dec 2008
“2004 land rover discovery ii with 44k miles, under warranty, and recently serviced at dealership, spontaneously caught fire, while unoccupied, and turned off, to the point of complete destruction of engine & front end, did not destroy interior. Extremely lucky that others were not hurt, or not driving at time of occurrence. *tr”Owner report · Engine And Engine Cooling · Aug 2008
