“The vehicle is completely rusting underneath and running boards. I was told by Infiniti customer affairs that the recalls had closed for rusted out struts. This impacts driving and can become a safety concern if the struts completely rust away. I'm concerned for my safety or the safety of my family if this failure occurs. “Tl* the contact owns a 2000 infiniti qx4. The contact stated that the vehicle's frame was completely rusted and the fuel tank did not indicate when it was at full capacity. As a result, fuel would overflow. The rust failure was remedied in 2012. The vehicle was taken to infiniti of northern kentucky (1945 dixie hwy, fort wright, ky 41011) for other repairs; however, it was not diagnosed for the fuel failure. The manufacturer was contacted. “Tl* the contact owns a 2000 infiniti qx4. The contact stated that corrosion of the strut tower housing caused the power steering column to fracture. “Serious corrosion on the frame. The passenger side of the vehicle where the control arm attaches to the frame is completely rusted out just beyond the strut mount recall location. The dealership deemed it not able to be fixed and was told by both the dealership and consumer affairs that its not their problem. While driving 55 mph I started hearing a knocking noise in the right front. Soon after the wheel started shaking while turning left. Knocking got worse and it started to sway uncontrollably while turning. Had it towed to dealership where it is still sitting and not able to be driven. “I was told about a recall on this vehicle due to frame body strut housing corrosion, I'm hearing a clicking sound as I proceed to make turns now. “Based on my my mechanics advise I had vehicle inspected by infiniti dealer and learned that frame of the vehicle rusted thru mounting point of rf lower control arm and unsafe to operate. Based on my mechanics advise, I contacted infiniti. I explained them that this vehicle only has 136,900 miles and should not have rusted like this. I truly believe that infiniti messed up the metallurgy or used cheap steel to manufacture this car. Infiniti recited the several recalls like strut tower and filler tube rust and said there is nothing they can do. I like these vehicles to be looked at again for the severe rust issues that makes these vehicles unsafe and can cause accidents.”Owner report · Structure · Oct 2015
“Tl* the contact inspected a 2000 infiniti qx4. The contact stated that when the driver turned the ignition to the on position, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that steering shaft column was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired by the dealer, at no cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 129,000. Updated 11/19/15*lj the shock tower failed and made contact with the steering. “My frame an body on my car rusting very badly. The frame an wheel well on the driver side of car is very badly rusted. I went for service because of a rocking back an forth they told me too get help right a way because my frame was about to break due to rust $1100. Cost is there a recall. I cant afford this cost. ON CERTAIN VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, KENTUCKY, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, TENNESSEE, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA , WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, DURING THE COATING PROCESS OF THE FUEL FILLER TUBE ASSEMBLY, AN INSUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF COATING MAY HAVE BEEN APPLIED AT THE LOWER MOUNTING BRACKET. THIS COULD RESULT IN AN OPENING IN THE COATING WHICH CAN ALLOW WATER TO ENTER AND MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BARE METAL OF THE TUBE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL FILLER TUBE ASSEMBLY WITH A NEW ONE WITH AN IMPROVED COATING PROCESS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 26, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE AN IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY WITH IMPROPERLY SEATED KEY CYLINDER CAP CONNECTOR PINS. VIBRATION CAN CAUSE THE CONNECTING PINS TO LOOSEN AND/OR FALL OUT ALLOWING THE KEY CYLINDER CAP TO DISENGAGE FROM THE KEY CYLINDER.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE IGNITION LOCK ASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLIES WITH LOOSE OR MISSING END CAP CONNECTOR PINS WILL BE REPLACED. A RING CLIP WILL BE INSTALLED ON ALL OTHERS TO PREVENT LOOSENING OF THE PINS.
NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1996-2004 PATHFINDER AND MODEL YEAR 1997-2003 INFINITI QX4 VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD, OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN, CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WASHINGTON D.C., WEST VIRGINIA AND WISCONSIN. IN AREAS OF THE COUNTRY IN WHICH HEAVY CONCENTRATIONS OF ROAD SALT ARE USED, A MIXTURE OF SNOW/WATER AND SALT MAY ENTER AN ASSEMBLY LOCATION HOLE IN THE UPPER STRUT HOUSING, CAUSING WATER TO COLLECT AT THE MATING SURFACE OF THE STRUT HOUSING PANEL AND THE INNER HOOD LEDGE ASSEMBLY. OVER TIME, THIS SNOW/WATER AND SALT INTRUSION MAY RESULT IN CORROSION OF THE STRUT TOWER HOUSING IN SOME SUBJECT VEHICLES.
Remedy: NISSAN WILL INSPECT THE STRUT HOUSING AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. AN INTERIM NOTIFICATION LETTER WAS SENT OUT IN MAY 2011. THE SECOND NOTICE WAS MAILED ON JULY 25, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
