The screws that held the bolts in place were located on the inside of the bumper which was inaccessible without taking the bumper off. The screws eventually rusted, and when they needed to be removed they broke off in the hole, which made it necessary for a mechanic to repair at a cost upwards of $100.00. The current and failure mileage were both 63,000.*ak update 5/3/07*tr”Owner report · Unknown Or Other · Mar 2007
“Changing gears when the gear shift let go . I had no more gears couldn't drive. Turns out the shifter rod goes into the transmission and is held in place with a shear pin. Shear pin broke I had to replace transmission pins are not supposed to break according to a hyundai mechanic. But lately they have had a few vehicles with the same problem I think this should be a recall. It cost me 900 because of a pin that's not supposed to break. Thank you for listening . I hope you can do something about it. Thank you. *nm”Owner report · Power Train · Feb 2007
“Dt*: the contact stated while driving at various speeds on the highway, the engine stalled without warning and there was a loss of all power. After a short while, the engine restarted. “Junk! Just over the 60,000 mile warranty and just about everything you can imagine went wrong. The gas gauge does not work. The exhaust broke apart on the flex pipe. It's all one piece and costs $850 just for parts. One out of two o2 sensors are bad at $200 a pop! Front wheel bearings went; one seized up and one was wobbling loose at $200 each. Front and rear brakes both went at once, rotors and all. Alternator also went bad which lead to new battery. Gas mileage went down to 28 mpg. Everything has been maintained on a regular basis and I'm still losing gas mileage. Over all I think I have paid for this car at least twice!. *jb”Owner report · Electrical System · Dec 2005

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 1.5 LITER OR 1.6 LITER ENGINES THAT WERE ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ALASKA, COLORADO, IDAHO, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KANSAS, MAINE, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, MONTANA, NORTH DAKOTA, NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, SOUTH DAKOTA, VERMONT, WISCONSIN, AND WYOMING. WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY THROTTLE OPENING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME DURING EXTREMELY COLD AMBIENT TEMPERATURES (BELOW APPROXIMATELY -5 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT WITH HIGH HUMIDITY), MOISTURE IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER BLOWBY GASES CAN FREEZE AND BLOCK THE POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE AND HOSE. IF THE PCV HOSE FREEZES, COMBUSTION CHAMBER GASES ARE FORCED THROUGH THE BREATHER HOSE INTO THE AIR INTAKE HOSE AND THEN INTO THE THROTTLE BODY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW, RELOCATED PCV HOSE AND WILL ADDITIONALLY INSTALL A HEATED THROTTLE BODY ON THE 2000-2001 ACCENTS EQUIPPED WITH 1.5 LITER ENGINES THAT WERE PRODUCED THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2001. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN APRIL 15, 2002. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT WHICH COVERS THE BALL JOINT CONNECTION BETWEEN THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR DRIVE ARM AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER DRAG LINK CAN STICK TO THE SURFACE OF THE DRIVE ARM. IF THE RUBBER BOOT STICKS AND THE WIPER MOTOR IS TURNED ON, BINDING OF THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE DRIVE ARM AND DRAG LINK RESULTS, CAUSING THE BALL JOINT CONNECTION TO DISENGAGE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT AND WILL LUBRICATE THE NEW PROTECTIVE RUBBER BOOT WHERE IT CONTACTS THE DRIVE ARM.
CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, "OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT." DURING TESTING, THE 3-DOOR HATCHBACK EXCEEDED THE PERFORMANCE CRITERION IN THE STANDARD MIDWAY ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD SUPPORT PILLAR (A-PILLAR).
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW ENERGY MANAGEMENT BRACKETS TO SUPPORT THE A-PILLAR COVERS AND INCREASE THE ENERGY ABSORBING PERFORMANCE OF THE A-PILLAR IN THE RELEVANT AREA. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 28, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.
