“For the past several years the engine stops running without warning and will not start for several hours. The gas system has been replaced, new coil and distributor, oil, and still it stops. I have talked to others who have had the same problem and had to park their jimmy due to the unsafe nature of the problem, the jimmy has been to 3 dealers who charged a lot of money but never fixed the problem.”Owner report · Steering · May 2015
“Tl* the contact owns a 1995 gmc jimmy. While driving approximately 55 mph, the contact activated the air conditioning unit and the air would only flow out of the windshield vents, not the dashboard panel vents. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop to be repaired on numerous occasions but the failure continued to recur. During some of the failures, the air conditioning unit would function properly at low speeds only. The contact also performed repairs on the vehicle himself but the failure continued. “I had bought a car with questions about having a transmission problem, and I was told there was a new one just put in. About 3-4 days later the car broke down because the transmission had gone bad. “Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle experienced extended stopping distances when the ABS was activated on rough road conditions. The brakes grinded when they were applied on rough roads but worked fine on smooth pavements. There was a NHTSA recall, # 99i006000, regarding the service brakes, hydraulic: antilock. “While applying the brakes on a dry surface or wet the ABS (anit-lock brakes) locks up and cause the vehicle to travel forward with unsafe stopping distances. T the speed of 5mph. To 10 mph. “Driving 1995 gmc jimmy with no passengers and no load at 40mph on suburban road at 10:00 in evening swerved to miss sudden appearance of large deer. Both driver side tires (kelly springfield safari sjr 235-70r15) blew off their rims causing loss of control of vehicle as bare rims hit pavement. Vehicle developed severe yaw causing it to spin twice. Fortunately there was no traffic so no accident occurred. “Brakes on my 1995 gmc jimmy fail periodically. The last time I rear ended a women and destroyed the front of my car. Everything has been checked over twice by mechanics who have come to the conclusion it is the module in the ABS. Gm has said it is not their problem. If I am driving along at 25 miles an hour, I shouldn't have to wonder if and when my brakes will fail again. The brakes were put to the floor and nothing happened, I continued at the same rate of speed. The first time I almost got broad sided at a stop sign. FAN BLADE RIVET BREAKAGE CAN OCCUR CAUSING THE FAN BLADE TO SEPARATE FROM THE SPIDER.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE, IF NECESSARY, THE FAN WITH A NEWER FAN HAVING THICKER-HEADED RIVETS.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 4-DOOR, 4-WHEEL DRIVE AND ALL-WHEEL DRIVE MULTI-PURPOSE PASSENGER VEHICLES. DURING DEVELOPMENT TESTING, THE PROP SHAFT CONTACTED THE INBOARD SIDE OF THE FUEL TANK ALLOWING FUEL LEAKAGE. THIS LEAKAGE WAS IN EXCESS OF THE AMOUNT PERMITTED BY FMVSS 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY."
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL ADDITIONAL SHIELDING OF THE FUEL TANK. THIS WILL BE ADDED WITHOUT REMOVING OR DISASSEMBLING THE FUEL SYSTEM.
CERTAIN R&B, INC. CENTRAL MULTIPORT FUEL INJECTION (CMFI) FUEL RETURN LINES, MODELS HELP 55163, NAPA BALKAMP 700-3270, AND THE CONNECTION 2560001, SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE. THE FUEL RETURN LINE HAS A MECHANICAL BLEED VALVE WHICH WAS NOT INSTALLED AT THE PROPER TORQUE.
Remedy: R&B, INC. WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND AT THE CUSTOMERS REQUEST, EITHER REPLACE THE FUEL LINE OR OFFER A FULL REFUND. THE RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 4, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT R&B, INC. AT 215-712-5330.
THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SAFETY ACT. HOWEVER, IT IS DEEMED A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN BY THE AGENCY. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS, SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, OR MINIVANS EQUIPPED WITH 3-SENSOR ABS (ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM) EBC4 UNITS.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL MODIFY THE COMPUTER PROGRAM WHICH OPERATES THE ABS UNIT ON SOME VEHICLES, OR REPLACE THE COMPUTER ON OTHERS TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ABS ON THESE SURFACES.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN 4-WHEEL DRIVE PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH ABS (ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM) MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1989 THROUGH AUGUST 1996. UNDER CERTAIN DRIVING CONDITIONS THE SWITCH WHICH SIGNALS THE ABS SYSTEM WHETHER THE VEHICLE IS IN 2-WHEEL OR 4-WHEEL DRIVE CAN MALFUNCTION CAUSING INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCES DURING ABS STOPS WHILE IN THE TWO-WHEEL DRIVE MODE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE OR REPAIR THE 4-WHEEL/2-WHEEL DRIVE SWITCH.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, 2 AND 4-WHEEL DRIVE. SOLDER JOINTS NEAR THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR CAN CRACK CAUSING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE WIPER MOTOR CIRCUIT BOARD AND COVER.
THE BRAKE PEDAL PIVOT BOLT WAS STARTED IN THE WELD NUT, BUT WAS NOT TORQUED CORRECTLY CAUSING THE BOLT TO DISENGAGE FROM THE WELD NUT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT FOR HAND-STARTED BRAKE PEDAL BOLTS AND TORQUE THEM TO CORRECT SPECIFICATIONS.
THE UPPER BALL JOINT NUTS WERE UNDER-TORQUED RESULTING IN IMPROPER SEATING IN THE STEERING KNUCKLE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL RETORQUE THE UPPER BALL JOINT NUT ON BOTH SIDES OF THE VEHICLE TO THE CORRECT TORQUE VALUES.
