“As I was leaving the parking lot at cleveland clinic, I heard two loud bangs and upon looking under the hood I noticed the gearbox had pulled from the frame and three bolts sheared off leaving the steering unusable and this incident had I been driving would certainly have resulted in the death of my wife and I. Why no recall I ask? Upon researching, I am finding many of the same issues from owners of this model. *tr”Owner report · Steering · Mar 2012
“I went to the grocery store with my 3 year old and as I was backing out the steering completely failed I still cannot get the van home yet because it has yet to be fixed. The steering box separated from the frame, where it was mounted and sheared all 3 bolts and pulled one bolt through the frame. Had I been driving on the highway I would have wrecked. I researched it online and found it to be a pretty common thing in 93'/94' ford clubwagons and ive seen pictures that looked similar to what happened to my aunts van that I was driving. From what I understand there is still currently no recall on that defect and it is a dangerous defect that should be recalled. *kb”Owner report · Steering · Nov 2011
“The steering box is bolted to the front left frame with three bolts. All three bolts sheared, resulting in complete loss of steering ability. The incident occurred at the top of the mt. Baker highway, washington state rt 542. There were six people in the van, and we had just driven up the winding steep mountain road with thousand foot drops and few guard rails. The bolts broke as we were parking in front of the ski lodge. Had it broken moments sooner or later, there is no doubt that we would all be dead. Inspection shows much cracking in the frame at and near the lower bolt hole. *tr”Owner report · Structure · Nov 2008

“When backing out of driveway or just driving the van will go into fast gear. You can begin at 0 to 5 mph and in seconds you will be going at least 45 mph sometimes even faster. This can happen any time. The engine can be cold or hot. Also we have had to put in a new starter last month. We had the original rebuilt and it died. When we got under the engine we could move a wire and the vehicle started with no problem. The first time that the van died we did have the starter rebuilt.”Owner report · Electrical System · Sep 1998
