Basically, everything happened at once. First, my door fell completely off of the hinges and is now wired shut. Then, I was informed that I needed a new water pump put in. My transmission feels as though it is locked in second gear (I haven't yet found out what the problem is with my transmission). All, the while my car has been overheating ever since I bought the car a year ago and I need a new radiator.*akOwner report · Suspension · Oct 2003
The vehicle unpredictably shifts into second gear while traveling at freeway speeds. First occurance was at 62,000 miles. The repairs so far only solve the problem for a brief period of time, 10,000 to 15,000 per repair. During the winter months I drive in the snow weekly. This condition makes the car extremly unsafe on wet or icy roads. Its now driven only on dry roads. Can this transmission be repaired?Owner report · Power Train · Jun 2001

While driving at <5 mph (rush hour traffic), depressed accelerator and car reacted as if in neutral (revving, no movement), let off gas and tried again. Engine revved, slammed into gear and went approx. 30 ft. Occurred 3 more times and had to be towed. Transmission shop stated that "overdrive snap ring broke inside main input drum assembly and the forward drum assembly blew up" resulting in need to rebuild trans., replace all clutch plates and torque converter. Shop stated that chrysler knew of this problem and had upgrades to transmission but did not recall because "not every car had the problem". Cost to rebuild transmission and have upgrade installed $2025.51.Owner report · Power Train · Jan 1999
