Power brakes stopped working on the way home driving 35 mph. Had to press very hard to get the brakes to start to slow the car. Told that the ABS pump motor had burned out and is covered by recall 685. Dealer said they had no one who could work on it . Chrysler says they will not honor the recall on november 2 2015 on the phone. The car is to old and recall only good for ten years . We have a 1992 chrysler imperial that has a recall no.# 685 for ABS lifetime. Larry h. Miller chrysler jeep tucson. Refuses to fix the recall. It's not safe to drive on the road. They are threatening to file a abandon vich. To claim it and sell it. I cannot drive it off the lot until it is fixed. I need some help. Can anyone help with this problem? If I tow it and sell it. Tl* the contact called on behalf of a friend who owns a 1992 chrysler imperial. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine made an abnormal noise without warning. Upon driving the vehicle at various speeds, the contact's friend would had to depress the brake paddle with great effort, as the brake failure light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with a defective ABS system. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. Upon further investigation the contact associated recall NHTSA campaign number: 96v099000 (service brakes, hydraulic) with the failure. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal but it was stiff and he had to let the vehicle coast to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the acute piston pump regulator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The contact tried to depress the brake pedal but the pedal went to the floorboard abnormally and the vehicle would not stop. The contact coasted the vehicle to the shoulder and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised the contact that the brakes would have to be bled. A technician from the dealer concluded that the ABS pump motor failed. He then added that because of the age of the vehicle, they would not provide a free remedy. No repairs were made. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The vehicle identification number was unavailable. THE ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT CAN EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON SEAL WEAR CAUSING PUMP-MOTOR DETERIORATION.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL TEST THE VEHICLE'S ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND REPAIR THE VEHICLES IF NECESSARY. ALSO THE WARRANTY ON ALL ABS COMPONENTS WILL BE EXTENDED TO 10 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES (EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE ACTUATOR PISTON ASSEMBLY AND THE PUMP-MOTOR ASSEMBLY WHICH WILL HAVE A LIFETIME COVERAGE). OWNERS WILL ALSO BE REIMBURSED FOR PREVIOUS ABS COMPONENT REPAIR COSTS.

THE ZINC PLATING OPERATION PERFORMED ON THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN SHAFT COUPLING BOLT CAUSED HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT AND BREAKAGE OF THE BOLT.

Remedy: REPLACE THE ZINC PLATED BOLT WITH A PHOSPHATE PLATED BOLT.
