“When the cruise control is set at 55 mph, speed starts increasing and would not disengage, even though driver stepped on the brakes and turned the off the switch. Driver was able to turn off the ignition to stop the vehicle, avoiding a crash. A mechanic unhooked the cruise control system. The dealer was called about the problem. “While driving down the highway at approximately 55mph engine check light came on and stayed on. Took vehicle to dealer and he was not able to find the cause. “Steering column: driving approximately 70-75mph and noticed smoke coming from the top seam of the steering column in the air bag area. Pulled over, shut off vehicle and smoke ceased. Started up car and got up to 70mph, and it started smoking again in the same area. CERTAIN HONEYWELL FRAM RACING BRAND HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 25, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 14, 2007, AND SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR VEHICLES LIST ABOVE. THE AFFECTED FILTERS ARE MARKED WITH A DATE CODE A61451 THROUGH A72571 SEQUENTIALLY. THE DATE CODE AND PART NUMBER APPEAR ON THE FILTER HOUSING. FRAM RACING HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS NOT BEARING A DATE CODE IN THIS RANGE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE GASKET OF THE OIL FILTER BECOMES MORE PLIABLE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES.
Remedy: HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-890-2075.
THE UPPER TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER HOSE CAN PULL OUT OF THE CRIMPED COUPLING AT THE TRANSAXLE END OF THE LINE ASSEMBLY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW UPPER TRANSAXLE OIL COOLER LINE TO THE TRANSAXLE.
REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDERS TOO SMALL TO ALLOW FOR PROPER BRAKING.
Remedy: REPLACE ORIGINAL 1" REAR WHEEL BRAKE CYLINDER WITH A 1 1/16" CYLINDER.
