“Tl* the contact owns a 1995 cadillac eldorado. While parked, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who discovered that the plastic fuel lines were not replaced with the stainless steel fuel lines. The gmc dealer was also contacted and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired according to NHTSA campaign number: 04v110000 (fuel system, gasoline). The remedy failed to correct the failure. “Tl* the contact owns a 1995 cadillac eldorado. The contact stated that that fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle and the engine failed to start. The contact noticed that there was a puddle located under the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. The technician diagnosed that there was a fuel leak and the return line was fractured. The vehicle was repaired. However, the fuel odor persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. NHTSA campaign id number: 98v115000, air bags is related to his year, make, and model; however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact is concerned about the safety risk since the air bag could fail to deploy during a crash. Prior to this information, the contact noticed that the vehicle was using more gas than normal. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. “On november 21, 2007 I received a recall for 1995 eldorado cadillac fuel rail construction cracks or deteriorates causing fire in the engine compartment. On novemebr 23, 2007 10:00am drove car 6 miles to shopping center parked car went in came out started car would not start im immediately back fired and went up in flames. From under the hood to back seat. The car is not repairable. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAGS CAN OCCUR DUE TO WATER INTRUSION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL CLEAN THE EXTERIOR CASE OF THE SENSING AND DIAGNOSTIC MODULE (SDM) AND APPPLY A POTTING COMPOUND TO THE SDM CASE AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR BODY.
SOME PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 4.0L V8 ENGINES HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH THE NYLON TUBING USED IN THE FUEL RAIL CONSTRUCTION MAY DEGRADE AND CRACK. ADDITIONALLY, THE 1995 MODEL YEAR USES A UNIQUE UNDERHOOD FUEL RETURN LINE THAT MAY CRACK. CRACKING OF THE FUEL RAIL OR RETURN LINE TUBING CAN RESULT IN A FUEL LEAK INTO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL WITH A NEW STAINLESS STEEL FUEL RAIL. DEALERS WILL ALSO INSTALL A REVISED CHASSIS FUEL RETURN LINE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 2, 2004, FOR 1996-1997 OLDSMOBILE AURORA VEHICLES. OWNERS OF 1995 CADILLACS AND 1996-1997 OLDSMOBILE AURORA WERE SENT LETTERS ON AUGUST 6, 2004. ADDITIONAL LETTERS TO OWNERS WILL BE FORTHCOMING. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT OLDSMOBILE AT 1-800-630-6537.
