P2716 on Toyota vehicles
30 owner complaints filed with NHTSA about Toyota vehicles mention P2716 (Pressure Control Solenoid D Electrical) - across 4 models. Below is where it shows up, by model and year.
Can you drive with it? Yes, cautiously - electrical faults often leave the transmission in a firm-shifting default mode that is unpleasant but not destructive over short distances.
Symptoms, likely causes in order and realistic repair costs are on the main P2716 page - they do not differ much by brand. This page shows what is specific to Toyota: which models and years actually report it.
Toyota models reporting P2716
The number next to each year is how many NHTSA complaints for that car mention P2716. Owners rarely quote trouble codes when complaining, so real occurrence is many times higher - use these numbers to compare years, not as totals.
What Toyota owners report
“2012 Toyota Camry LE developed severe transmission shudder/vibration during normal driving, especially around 25-35 mph and 45-60 mph. The vehicle also experienced noticeable vibration when shifting into Reverse and Drive. An OBD scan previously detected diagnostic trouble code P2716 related to transmission pressure control. The transmission fluid was serviced, but the shudder continued. While driving on the highway, the check-engine light came on again. The vehicle was subsequently returned to the seller and a $7,500 settlement was reached. I am reporting this to document the mechanical and powertrain problems experienced with this vehicle.”2012 Toyota Camry · Jul 2026
“My toyota corolla matrix 2006 has a ecm under recall. When I bought this car from previous owner , I did not know that car was serviced under recall and ecm was replaced in january of 2011. In october of 2013, car has 54k miles and check engine light (p2716) is on. The transmission diagnostic was done and it shows that car has malfunctioning ecm. Transmission was rebuilt but not by toyota dealer. Toyota dealer told me that my car has replaced ecm and doesn't qualify for any other ecm replacement. Now the car has 106k and still the same problem p2716 and ecm is malfunctioning. *js”2006 Toyota Corolla Matrix · Jan 2017 · 105,000 mi
“I have a 2006 toyota corolla that started exhibiting violent shaking while driving. Shortly after then check engine light came on. I took it to my local autozone for a diagnostics scan and it returned code "p2716 - pressure control solenoid". I discovered that toyota currently has a tsb on this issue (tc015-07) but not an official recall. Even though no accident occurred in this case, this is a serious safety issue as the shaking slowed the car down and could have caused an accident had it had been on the highway. Other people have reported the car completely shutting of. *tr”2006 Toyota Corolla · Aug 2010 · 71,000 mi
