Symptoms

  • Random limp modes
  • Intermittent stalling
  • Odd cross-system behavior (cruise, fans)

Likely causes, most common first

  1. PCM internal performance fault
  2. Overheating module (mounting location)
  3. Power or ground degradation

Read P0607 yourself before paying for diagnosis

A basic Bluetooth OBD-II scanner ($20-40) plugs into the port under the dashboard and shows this code with live sensor data on your phone - useful both for confirming the fix and for talking to a shop from an informed position.

What is going on and how it gets diagnosed

P0607 means the computer's internal watchdog caught it misbehaving - responses too slow or internally inconsistent. Heat is an underrated cause; modules mounted on the engine live hard lives.

As with the whole P060x family: externals first, then reflash, then hardware. The order matters because each step is ten times cheaper than the next.

Repair options and cost

Power/ground verification$100 - $250
PCM replacement + programming$800 - $2,000

Typical US independent-shop ranges, parts and labor. Dealers run higher; regional labor rates vary.

2012 rav4 - for no apparent reason my check engine light, trac off light and 4x4 light have been coming on for a few days, then off, then on, etc. We got a code of p0607, but the car is showing no symptoms associated with that code error. The vehicle is driving fine. I have checked the battery connection and the gas cap. Based on a large number of online complaints, I would ask that NHTSA seriously look into this issue and strongly consider a recall that will actually fix the problem for owners. There have been a number who have taken the vehicle in for repair, only to have the lights back on a few days later. Please hold toyota accountable for this.2012 Toyota RAV4 · May 2019 · 85,000 mi

While driving my fusion which has had no mechanical issues up to this point slammed into 3rd gear followed by a rapid decrease in power and speed. The check engine light and wrench came on and pretty sure was in the" limp home" mode. Took it to get the codes read and p 2104 and p0607 were present. *tr2009 Ford Fusion · Dec 2014 · 188,000 mi
This vehicle was driving down the road at highway speed and failed to respond to throttle. There was lots of traffic and this nearly caused an accident. The part that failed is the ecm/pcm and gave a code: p0604 and p0607. This part has recalls which apply to it, however, our manufacturer says the vehicle is not covered by this recall. If there is a recall on some of the vehicles how can the others be perfectly fine? The year coverage is from before and after this model year and yet only certain cars of this time frame are covered? Stay away from these vehicles. They will kill you, they are unsafe and unreliable. Major safety hazard. *tr2007 Pontiac Vibe · Nov 2012 · 65,284 mi

The engine gives no warning it's about to stall. Leading up to this series of events was no warning at all. Scanned obdii code p0607 came up. *tr2006 Toyota Corolla · Jun 2010 · 84,995 mi
Yesterday our 2007 toyota corolla(13,000) stopped dead in flow of traffic on a highway-luckily we merged to shoulder narrowly missing being hit by traffic. The car was fixed w/ a new computer system. Checking if others had this problem it turns out that diagnostic code p0607 has a very bad & significant history with 2007 corolla-cars just die!!! But no recall. We almost died and similar situations have been reported. *tr2007 Toyota Corolla · Apr 2010 · 13,000 mi
As I was driving my 2008 toyota corolla through the intersection of illinois route 60 in vernon hills on march, 17,2010 my vehicle's check engine light became activated and my car completely shut down in traffic almost creating a traffic accident . The car would not re-start after about 10 seconds, however, would restart after appx.30 seconds on the second start attempt. I drove the car to my personal repair shop whom gave be a diagnostic fault code of p0607.(faulty ecu) note:the right front strut assembly and water pump has also went out since this car has been under warranty. *tr2008 Toyota Corolla · Mar 2010
