“Tl*the contact owns a 1993 volkswagen eurovan. While driving 5 mph, the engine on one side of the vehicle became completely loose and fell to the ground. The pan, which supported the engine, fell onto the street and dragged on the ground. An engine bracket, to which the engine is bolted, needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that nothing could be done. The vehicle is currently parked at an auto repair shop awaiting the parts for the repair. “While merging onto the highway steering wheel failed. Consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Vehicle continued to accelerate. Consumer was not able to maintain control of the vehicle, and vehicle went down into an embankment and flipped over three times. The driver was not injured. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic was not able to duplicate the problem. Consumer informed the driver that recall 94v058000 applied to this vehicle. “Consumer was traveling about 15mph on a residential street. She had the window rolled up, and she started feeling sick. She pulled over and noticed white smoke coming from hood area. Consumer went to get her husband, and when she returned vehicle was in flames. Vehicle was totaled. *ak prior to the recall the fuel line failed (00v-039). The vehicle was serviced for NHTSA recall# 00v039000, replacing part number 701201363e fuel line, feed and part number 701201363c fuel line, return. The contact stated that his 1995 has the same parts on it, but are not experiencing any problems as of yet. The contact stated that volkswagen should recall the 1995 and any vehicles that are using these parts. THE HANDLE OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CONTAINS A TORSION SPRING WHICH IS DESIGNED TO ENSURE THAT THE LOCKING MECHANISM REMAINS FIRMLY ENGAGED UPON APPLICATION OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. SOME OF THESE SPRINGS MAY HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY INSTALLED.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A LONGER TENSION SPRING TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT TENSION.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINI VANS. THE CONNECTING ENDS OF THE FUEL FEED AND RETURN HOSES IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAN "SETTLE" OVER TIME WHICH COULD CAUSE THE FASTENING CLAMPS TO LOSE THEIR TIGHT FIT AND PERMIT FUEL TO SEEP OUT AT THE HOSE CONNECTION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL FEED AND RETURN HOSES.
THESE STEERING WHEELS AND INCLUDE A UNIVERSAL JOINT WHICH IS ATTACHED TO STEERING SHAFTS AND SECURED BY LOCKING BOLTS. THE UNIVERSAL JOINT'S UPPER LOCKING BOLT WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY TORQUED DURING MANUFACTURE, AND CAN EVENTUALLY LOOSEN.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE THE PRESENT UNIVERSAL UPPER LOCKING BOLT, INSTALL A NEW ONE, AND TORQUE IT TO SPECIFICATIONS.
