The contact owned a 2017 Toyota Corolla IM. The contact stated that while driving at 5 MPH, another vehicle struck the driver's side front door, causing the seat belt to forcefully retract inward on his chest. The air bags were deployed upon impact. The contact received medical attention for his chest pain and was diagnosed with two hernias. A police report was filed. The vehicle was driven to the residence by his neighbor and was deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Vehicle struck a dear at approx. 50-55 mph. No airbag deployment. Vehicle suffered damage as far back as the engine requiring replacement of the intake manifold. Air bags not deployed during extensve collision....none deployed.....also drivers seat belt did not activate during collision. From a complete stop when attempting to accelerate you can push the accelerator all the way to the floor and it will accelerate extremely slow then will take off creating one of two safety concerns. Either you must floor the accelerator to even attempt to keep up with traffic or feather the accelerator and get run over from behind.Owner report · Power Train · Sep 2018

TIRES:TEMPORARY/EMERGENCY SPARE TIRE17V295000 · May 2017

Gulf States Toyota, Inc. (Gulf States) is recalling certain 2017 4Runner , 86, Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, Corolla iM, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius C, RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid, Sienna and Yaris vehicles. The spare tire air pressure was not adjusted to the proper pressure as stated on the Tire Pressure Label.

Remedy: Gulf States will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the spare tires, adjusting their pressure as necessary, free of charge. The recall began June 15, 2017. Owners may contact Gulf States customer service at 1-800-444-1074. Toyota's number for this recall is 17R2.
