“Tl*the contact owns a 2001 saturn sc2 equipped with sigma supreme tires. While driving various speeds the vehicle would shake. She did not want to provide an approximate speed because the failure occurred while driving at any speed. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where she was informed that there was tread separation on the front drivers side tire. The tire was replaced. The failure had not recurred. “Driving a 2001 saturn sc2 ran front of vehicle into rear bumper of a ford truck, collision speed approx. 35 mph. I had my seat belt on , the air bags deployed. I hit the windshield with the top of my head and was knocked out. I am 5'7" and was sitting properly in the seat with both hands on the steering wheel at the time of the collision. “Consumer took vehicle to the dealer because steering column was too loose. Dealer told consumer that the problem was a manufactured bolt that was loose. It could not be tightened, it had to be cut off and replaced. Consumer felt it was a manufacturing defect. Therefore, it should be repaired free of charge. “Tl* the contact owns a 2001 saturn sc2. The contact stated while inserting the key into the ignition, she noticed that the ignition switch was loose. The ignition switch was replaced by the dealer. The failure recurred. The ignition switch was replaced by the dealer august 2003, june 2004 and august 2006. The failure persisted and the dealer informed the contact that the ignition cylinder would to be replaced again. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not further repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000 and the current mileage was 67,579.”Owner report · Electrical System · Aug 2003
“Tl*the contact owns a 2001 saturn sc2. While driving 50 mph, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle accelerated. The vehicle accelerated to 55 mph. The emergency brake was applied, but the failure continued. The rpm's increased. The gear was shifted into park and the vehicle stopped. There were no warning indicators prior to the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure. No repairs were made. The failure still persists. “While driving at 30mph consumer took foot off accelerator and vehicle kept going. She then applied brakes; but, it did not slow vehicle. Applied transmission, and tachometer went to 3000 rpms. She then released transmission, and vehicle kept speed of 35 mph. She applied brakes and transmission, vehicle slowed and engine raced. But, stopped at light. She let go of transmission and brakes, and by that time she had shifted up to 3rd gear without applying accelerator, vehicle reached 35 mph. After 1/2 to 3/4 mile engine stopped racing, and consumer was able to stop vehicle. Dealer found nothing wrong with vehicle. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH AN INADEQUATE VENT VALVE WELD ON THE TOP PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE VEHICLE TO ENSURE THE FUEL TANK VENT VALVE IS PROPERLY WELDED. IF NECESSARY, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, EQUIPPED WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLES, FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 114, "THEFT PROTECTION." THESE VEHICLES WERE BUILT WITH AN IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE PARK LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY. IF IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED, IT IS POSSIBLE TO SHIFT FROM THE "PARK" POSITION WITH THE IGNITION KEY REMOVED.
Remedy: SATURN IS ASKING OWNERS AND RETAILERS TO PERFORM A FUNCTIONAL CHECK OF THE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE PARK LOCK CABLE ASSEMBLY OPERATION, AND IF NECESSARY, TO HAVE THE CABLE ADJUSTED. IF OWNERS ARE NOT COMFORTABLE PERFORMING THE FUNCTIONAL CHECK THEMSELVES, THEY CAN HAVE THEIR DEALER PERFORM THIS INSPECTION FOR THEM.
