“The contact owns a 2007 Honda VT750. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the contact became aware of a leak coming from the fuel valve. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or local dealer. The contact related the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 08V141000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. “Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda vt750 shadow aero. While driving approximately 70 mph, the motorcycle stalled without warning. The motorcycle restarted; however, the motorcycle sputtered all the way to the residence. Once parked, the contact discovered that fuel was leaking from the fuel control valve. The motorcycle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the petcock valve failed and needed to be replaced. The motorcycle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 08v141000 (fuel system, gasoline). “When I ride my motorcycle to work (18 miles) and park it in direct sunlight, it drips gas for 2-3 hours in the afternoon. A puddle of fuel forms under the bike. Today I measured the puddle and it was approximately 3.5 inches by 6 inches. I have taken the bike to my local honda dealer 3 times and the problem continues. “Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda shadow aero vt750c. While attempting to accelerate from a stop at 5 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into first gear or any other gear. The failure occurred without warning and the vehicle has no hazard lights. The vehicle was rear-ended and the contact received injuries to his back and neck. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. A police report was filed. The powertrain was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 630. The consumer stated wants to know why motorcycles are not built with hazard lights. HONDA IS RECALLING 38,934 MY 2006-2007 VT600 AND MY 2007-2008 VT750 AND VTX1300 MOTORCYCLES. THE MOTORCYCLES MAY HAVE AN IMPROPERLY MANUFACTURED FUEL CONTROL VALVE DIAPHRAGM AND THE FUEL VALVE MAY DRIP FUEL.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL CONTROL VALVE DIAPHRAGM ASSEMBLY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 22, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-866-784-1870.
ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES AND MOTORCYCLES, THE OWNER'S MANUALS CONTAIN INCORRECT CONTACT INFORMATION FOR THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S (NHTSA) VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE.
Remedy: HONDA WILL SEND A POSTCARD TO DEALERS AND OWNERS WITH THE CORRECT NHTSA VEHICLE SAFETY HOTLINE INFORMATION AND WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO INSERT THE CARD INTO THE "REPORTING SAFETY DEFECTS" SECTION OF THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 2, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009, ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238 OR HONDA MOTORCYCLES AT 1-866-784-1870.
